idea sympathetically that Texas should be requested to send

a new consignment here without reference to A. R. Schlueter

will now write direct to Banders in the matter, and I now

hope that this matter will be quite in order in all respects

Charter, Finance, etc., certainly at the present time economy

should be the rule, but is it not worth considering whether

Mr. S. should not visit New York with regard to the Texas

matter and make arrangements for the transaction of a con-

signment personally with the Texas here. S. has also other

interests in New York and one could make satisfactory

arrangements with him with regard to his expenses. In the

first place, we shall have to see if S. is disposed to give

his approval to a new shipment for A. R. Canton.

If you

think there is nothing in this idea perhaps you will write

a couple of lines in the matter to S. Before this has arrived, however, some time will have elapsed then perhaps

the end of the War will be in sight. In this case, Mr.

Fuhrmann, after everything had been arranged with S. could undertake the arrangement of this matter in New York with

the Texas, as ur. Fuhrmann in any case proposed to return here via America. In any case, I hope that if we want to co anything at present with a view to keeping the agency we should carry on all negotiations with this object in view per- sonally with the Society, and should not pay too much atten- tion to expense. I am sure we can only carry the matter through by personal negotiations. Having regard to the sus- picions cast by S. T. and Company it seems likely that the Texas would regard an explanation from our side desirable,

but will, of course, not write to this effect to us.

(The rest of the paragraph is concerned with similar expressions of hope that matters will be arranged with the

Texas).
